Innovative Composting Initiative at Our Hotel
In 2022, our hotel introduced a unique composting initiative, utilizing one of the few industry-scale compost machines available in the region. This machine can convert up to 95% of our food waste into organic planting soil within 24 hours. The resulting soil is distributed to corporate clients, hotel guests, and nearby farms, contributing to local sustainability efforts.
Our staff have enthusiastically embraced this initiative. One of our Restaurant Managers organized a walk around central Gothenburg, distributing soil samples and raising awareness about food waste. This grassroots effort has garnered attention from the City of Gothenburg and sparked social media discussions on the importance of sustainable practices in restaurants.
Earlier this year, our F&B Manager proposed acquiring the compost machine, leading to a successful pitch and investment approval from our owners. Since its installation, we've implemented additional measures to ensure proper recycling bin labeling, which has improved overall waste sorting efficiency.
This program aligns with our "act local, think global" philosophy. By reducing food waste locally, we aim to make a broader global impact. The initiative also supports our employee branding strategy, attracting talent to our restaurants and enhancing our reputation as a sustainable business.
The composting machine's innovative technology ensures a continuous supply of fresh soil, which we distribute through various channels. Our efforts have reduced food waste by 25%, positioning us for Green Key certification—Radisson Hotel Group’s sustainability standard.
This ongoing program not only reinforces our commitment to sustainability but also strengthens our engagement with guests and partners through social media and events, promoting our dedication to environmental responsibility.
